AUDIO: Sussex County Council candidate Mark Schaeffer arrested for DUI

Mark Schaeffer is one of 4 Republicans in a primary race for the 3rd District in Sussex County.
Sussex County Council candidate Mark Schaeffer was stopped by Lewes Police and taken to Beebe Hospital for a blood draw under suspicion of a DUI.

"I can confirm that Mr.Schaeffer was stopped by the Lewes Police Department and charged with driving under the influence."

That was Lewes Police Cheif Tom Spell.

The candidate and former Smyrna mayor told Delaware 1059's Dan Gaffney,

"Last Monday after knocking on doors all day in the oppressive heat, I was completely exhausted when stopped by police after 8pm. I take full responsibility for my actions and apologize if I have offended anyone."

Schaeffer went on to explain that he is ready to tackle the serious issues facing Sussex County and that his license was taken by the police.
