By Mark Fowser

A man nearly drowns after fleeing into the Nanticoke River in Seaford.

Police say the 19-year-old suspect was approached as he was riding a bicycle near Cannon Street Friday afternoon.

He was wanted on burglary and other charges.

Officers were trying to get him handcuffed when he bolted down Cannon Street into the water.

He went under the water, and members of the Seaford Volunteer Fire Department Dive Team recovered him.

At last report, he was being treated at Nanticoke Hospital.
